Bat fo' Lashes

Last time I blogged about Bat for Lashes, it was April of last year when I linked her radical music video for "What's a Boy to Do?"

With her new album Two Suns, coming out in April (and is currently circulating around the web), I figured it's as good a time as any to blog about her again. Here are two tracks off her forthcoming second LP as well as some interesting artwork for the album's first single, "Daniel"...

Yes, that is the Karate Kid painted on her back.

The aforementioned single in 80s-synth-terrific, but maintains the eerie and haunting staples of Ms. Bat for Lashes, Natasha Khan. An interesting listen, more appropriate for car ride during a setting sun rather than a windows down, 'let's celebrate the return of warm weather to Michigan' jam.

I'm also posting "Sleep Alone," the second track from Two Suns. It has a similar chugging rhythm to "What's a Boy to Do?" which grabs your attention and keeps it; one of the biggest weaknesses of her 2006 debut, Fur of Gold, was that her songs got lost in themselves and evaporated. However, her melodies have always been pretty and her voice is lush, so it's good to hear her sonically improving.

MSTRKRFT = AWSM

It's Friday and you kids are probably going to need some music to dance to, huh? Well thankfully for you, I've got my hands on some new MSTRKRFT off their upcoming LP which don't drop until Tuesday.

In their sophomore effort, the Toronto duo trump everything they attempted with their 2006 debut and steals some blog spotlight from all all those French electronic duos.

Burn, Burn, Burn

Some excellent footage of Nine Inch Nails performing less than a month ago in Australia.

Seeing stuff like this makes me regret that I didn't see them during their last tour and really appreciate how good Trent can make the band sound live, even with older material.

For those with fingers far removed from the NIN pulse, "Burn" is off the Natural Born Killers soundtrack circa 1994. The original MP3 is linked below.

Too. Much. Work.

Sorry folks, I've been busy as of late. Blame Kalamazoo College, not me. Current academia = major headache.

However, as I sit in the library, I'm going to put up some new content. I've currently got this wonderful problem of having too much music that I want to share and I'll do my best to write about it instead of hording it all to myself.

Where to start, where to start... How about the new Thermals' single?

I got this radical 7" piece of wax the other day and it's only wet my appetite for their upcoming fourth LP, Now We Can See, due out on Kill Rock Stars on April 7th.

As previously noted, I'm a fan of the band and, like me, you'll probably dig the new tracks.

"My World" is the single's b-side, an up-tempo, straightforward Thermals track clocking in at barely over two minutes. It doesn't have the emotional chutzpah of anything off The Body, The Blood, The Machine, but it's solid material from one of my favourite bands.

"Now We Can See" has been around the internet for awhile now, premiering on P4K early in February, but its worth re-posting regardless; catchy garage-punk in-line with the claimed motif of "songs from when we were alive."
