Happy New Year; Here's to 2010

Everybody had a hard year
Everybody had a good time
Everybody had a wet dream
Everybody saw the sun shine

Everybody had a good year
Everybody let their hair down
Everybody pulled their socks up
Everybody put their foot down

Christmas Wishes + Ecuador-Induced Hiatus

Hey all.

Just want to wish everyone a Merry Christmas. While I could take some time to brag about all of my nifty gifties, I'm busy packing my bags for Ecuador. Yeah, Ecuador. How cool is that? I leave bright and early for my vacation tomorrow morning, but shall return to New York come January 5th.

Once I'm back, I'll resume regular blogging, etc., etc., assuming I don't get turned into a drug mule, get attacked by murderous vines, or have my organs harvested for the black market. Wish me luck.

And Yes.

The "Juan MacLean" Remix

Sometimes, even when you're downloading multiple albums and dozens of MP3s every day, great songs fly under your radar. Such is my case with the Juan MacLean remix of "A New Chance." The track is fantastic. Gone are the (admittedly groovy) Swede-pop aesthetics of the Tough Alliance original in favour of a TR-808 heavy, more New Order approach. The remix still packs a dance-floor punch though, so no worries if you're shakin' it in front of the mirror whenever you're reading my blog.

Speaking of New Order, if I have to hear "Bizarre Love Triangle" in some swanky Manhattan bar again without anyone in the place (but me) recognizing it, my head is going to explode.

It's Gucci, Gucci Everywhere

So Gucci Mane is in jail. He'll be stuck there for twelve months, but I doubt that will stop him from setting the blogosphere ablaze. So far this year he's released eight hundred and forty-three mixtapes, dropped his major label debut album yesterday, and inspired Diplo to create the shirt above in his honor.

Thankfully, Diplo's not stopping there. Word slipped a few days ago that the DJ extraordinaire is remixing Gucci’s Cold War mixtapes with a bunch of his friends at Mad Decent, the first track of which leaked Tuesday. Yeah, it's pretty great, but would you expect less from a remixer who claims, "Gucci Mane is an underdog and a divisive artist"?

To do my part, I'm posting some quality Gucci, including the aforementioned remix and two from the brand new The State vs. Radric Davis. BURRR, BURRR.

Adult Swim Sponsors the RMX

Anyone who pays any attention to Adult Swim's bumps knows that Cartoon Network's late nite station is more than just Family Guy and Cowboy Bebop re-runs. Yeah, they enjoy slipping some Grizzly Bear or Boards of Canada in between their programming, but they've also released a few free mixtapes for your downloading pleasure. The latest is titled ATL RMX and it pairs some indie beat-making electronic musicians (and HEALTH) with a plethora of Atlanta rappers.

The result is mostly successful, if not fully interesting. Check out some highlight tracks below or download the whole (free) thing for yourself here.

Pantha Du Prince Is My Ibuprofen

Well, it's Monday. If your weekend was anything like mine, you need a break from all that Raekwon, Chip tha Ripper, and Dâm Funk you were blaring on Friday/Saturday/Sunday night. Thankfully, the new Pantha Du Prince cures what ails.

"The Splendour" is off Pantha's upcoming album, Black Noise, coming out on Rough Trade in February. The track's soothing IDM takes me back to a simpler time, a time when my apartment wasn't trashed, when my headaches were non-existent, and when "hockey" was a sport, not a drinking game.
