MP3: Jai Paul's "BTSTU," Riding on James Blake's Coattails

If this is the kind of music we'll start to hear more of in a post-James Blake world, then count me quite in.
Jai Paul's "BTSTU" has been floating around the interweb-ether since 2007, until XL Recordings decided to remaster and release the haunting track themselves, no doubt due to the recent championing of Blake and his self-titled LP.
It's a good thing though, because wider audiences deserve to hear Paul's Prince-infused electronic-crooning. It's a post-dubstep world, we all just live in it.

MP3: A New First Rate People Song In, Like, Forever

It's been a little under a year since I last blogged about First Rate People, the ambiguous indie-pop outfit out of Toronto.
From what I glean from their Bandcamp, the band's now short a few members and abandoned their New Wave sound for Burial-inspired samplings. No worries though, they're still as infectious as ever--I've listened to "Funny Games" over two dozen times now...
It's officially summer jam season, right? Because this definitely makes the playlist.

Shocking rhymes and words

Listen, potential
Notes: I wrote over 700 words on Tyler, and his helmed hip-hop collective, Odd Future, speaking at length about what it might take to appreciate his visceral brand of rap and what makes it so great. You can read that post by clicking here.
